Board Game Cafés in Singapore: Where to Play and Who to Play With
Board game cafés in Singapore that are open in 2026, with addresses, hourly rates and cover charges, a free-to-join weekly game night, and tips for playing with new people.

On this page
Singapore has board game cafés for every budget, from S$3 an hour at Team Board Game near MacPherson to food-and-games evenings at King and the Pawn in Bugis. The Mind Cafe on Prinsep Street has the biggest library, with more than 970 games. If you want to meet new people, the weekly Tuesday game night run by the Singapore International Boardgames Meetup is the easiest way in.
Why board games are good for meeting people
A board game gives everyone something to do with their hands and a reason to talk. Rules explanations break the ice. Small wins and losses give you something to laugh about. And when the game ends, "one more?" is a natural way to see if people want to keep going. For shy people, it is far easier than standing in a bar.

It sits in the Bugis area, near several other cafés and supper spots.

ME Cafe and Games, Tanjong Pagar
At 77B Tanjong Pagar Road, Level 3, this café has been listed at S$6 an hour on Mondays to Thursdays and S$8 an hour from Friday to Sunday, as of October 2026. Recent guides describe it as open 24 hours, but hours have changed over the years, so check first. More ideas nearby are on our Tanjong Pagar area page.
A weekly game night for newcomers
If you do not have a group yet, go where the groups already are. The Singapore International Boardgames Meetup, run by the Card Board Crew, holds a game night at King and the Pawn most Tuesdays from 6.30pm. As of October 2026, entry is S$10 for unlimited games that night, with food and drinks extra.
The group says hosts and regulars teach newcomers, and that sessions suit all skill levels. RSVP on Meetup, arrive on time, and tell the host you are new. They will find you a table.
Games that work well with new people
Choose games that are quick to learn and give everyone something to talk about.
- Party and word games such as Codenames or Just One. Easy rules, lots of laughter, and teams mix people up.
- Light co-operative games such as The Crew. You win or lose together, so nobody feels picked on.
- Short card games such as Love Letter or Sushi Go. Twenty minutes or less, which makes them good warm-ups.
- Gateway strategy games such as Ticket to Ride or Splendor, once everyone is settled.
Most cafés have staff who can explain rules or suggest a game for your group size. Ask.
Board game café etiquette
- Put pieces back in the right bags and boxes before returning a game.
- Keep drinks off the board. Use the side table if there is one.
- Teach, do not lecture. Explain the goal first, then the turn, then the small rules.
- Watch the clock. Hourly rates add up, so agree how long you are staying.
- Check the policy on outside food. Some places allow it in a pantry area. Others do not.
Meeting new people safely
- Start with a group night in a public café rather than a private home.
- Make your own way there and home, especially after a late session.
- Keep personal details private until you know someone. Swapping a Telegram handle for the next game night is fine. Your address is not.
- Leave if you are uncomfortable. Nobody needs a reason to stop after one game.
- Never send money to someone you have not met in person, whatever the story.
Turning game night into friendship
The first night is about the games. By the third or fourth, it is about the people. Suggest the next session before you leave, start a small group chat for regulars, and try a different café together. Our guide to things to do this weekend with new people has more ideas. If you are planning a date, see first date ideas in Singapore.
A new option: Now I'm Open
Now I'm Open is a new, free web app from Singapore, launched on 19 October 2026 for adults 18 and over. Membership is still small, so it may take time to fill a whole table.
In Friends mode, you can post a short card such as "Open to Codenames at a Bugis board game café, Fri 7pm, need two more" or "Open to learning a strategy game, Sat afternoon". People nearby who want the same can say "I'm in", and chat opens only when you both say yes. Your location shows by area only, photos are visible to signed-in members, and selfie verification adds a Verified badge. Women can choose to show their cards only to women.
