How verification works
Last updated 21 October 2026
The Verified badge tells other members that a person on our team has matched your selfie to your profile photos. It means “looks like their photos”. It is not an ID check or a background check, so always meet in a busy public place.
Four steps
- Add a clear photo of your face to your profile. We compare your selfie with it.
- Take a selfie doing a gesture we ask for, like a thumbs up. The gesture shows the selfie was taken just now, not copied from somewhere.
- A person on our team compares the two, usually within a day. No face-recognition software is used.
- You get the badge if they match. If not, we tell you and you can try again.
What we keep and what we delete
- Your selfie is stored privately, seen only by you and our review team, and never shown on your profile. Once a person has reviewed it, the selfie file is deleted.
- We keep only the result (verified or not), the date of the check and the gesture we asked for.
- If you delete your account, the result goes with it.
Why we do it
People want to know they’re meeting the person in the photos. Verified members show up higher in noon picks, and anyone can filter Nearby to show only verified members.
