Meet like-minded people in Bali

On your own in Bali? Check in for the days you're there, say what you're open to, and other travellers and locals who chose to be seen can ask to join. They see your city, never your exact spot.

Bali is one of Asia's most popular islands for solo travellers, combining surf beaches, rice terraces, temples and a thriving wellness and co-working scene. The social vibe is friendly and outdoorsy, with surf lessons, yoga classes and sunset beach bars making it easy to meet people. Travellers gather in Canggu for surf and cafés, in Ubud for yoga and culture, and in Uluwatu for cliffside beaches.

Meeting people in Bali: what works

  • Stay in Canggu or Ubud, where social hostels, co-working spaces and yoga studios run regular community events.
  • Take a group surf lesson at beginner-friendly beaches like Batu Bolong in Canggu or Kuta.
  • Join a group sunrise trek up Mount Batur, which runs nightly and is very popular with solo travellers.
  • Use Grab or Gojek to get around and to join plans across the island without needing your own scooter.

Stay safe

Wear a helmet and only ride a scooter if you hold a valid licence, avoid unbranded arak cocktails because of methanol poisoning cases, and note that Indonesia's criminal code restricts sex outside marriage and LGBTQ+ travellers face legal and social risks, so keep sensitive profile details private.

Meet in public places, tell a friend where you’re going, and never send money to someone you met online.
