Now I’m Open

Meet like-minded people in Hong Kong

On your own in Hong Kong? Check in for the days you're there, say what you're open to, and other travellers and locals who chose to be seen can ask to join. They see your city, never your exact spot.

Hong Kong thrills solo travellers with a dramatic skyline, world-class dim sum, efficient public transport and surprisingly wild hiking trails just minutes from the city. The social scene is fast-paced and international, from rooftop bars to junk boat trips and dragon boat races. Travellers gather around Central, Soho and Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island, and in Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok in Kowloon.

Meeting people in Hong Kong: what works

  • Join group hikes on trails like Dragon's Back, Lion Rock or the MacLehose Trail, organised by many hiking groups on Meetup and social media.
  • Take the Star Ferry and walk the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront to catch the Symphony of Lights show with other visitors.
  • Look for climbing gyms and run clubs, which are popular with young professionals and easy to drop into.
  • Stay near Sheung Wan, Central or Tsim Sha Tsui for good transport links and plenty of social bars and cafés.

Stay safe

Hong Kong is very safe, but hike with water and sun protection, check typhoon and rainstorm warnings, and know that some trails get very crowded on weekends.

Meet in public places, tell a friend where you’re going, and never send money to someone you met online.
