Now I’m Open

Meet like-minded people in Taipei

On your own in Taipei? Check in for the days you're there, say what you're open to, and other travellers and locals who chose to be seen can ask to join. They see your city, never your exact spot.

Taipei is a dream for solo travellers, with excellent night markets, hot springs in Beitou, easy hikes like Elephant Mountain and a very safe, friendly atmosphere. Locals are welcoming and the city's café and bar culture makes it easy to linger and chat. Travellers gather around Ximending and Zhongshan, and in the stylish lanes of the Da'an and East District areas.

Meeting people in Taipei: what works

  • Stay near Ximending or Zhongshan, where hostels and nightlife make it easy to meet other travellers.
  • Join a free walking tour of the old city or Dadaocheng to get oriented and meet others.
  • Hike Elephant Mountain for sunset or join a group to Yangmingshan National Park.
  • Try a language exchange meetup; many locals are keen to practise English and help you with Mandarin.

Stay safe

Taipei is very safe, but scooters can come from unexpected directions, so look carefully when crossing, and check typhoon warnings in summer and autumn.

Meet in public places, tell a friend where you’re going, and never send money to someone you met online.
