Now I'm Open vs Bumble BFF: which is right for you?

Bumble BFF is the better choice if you like swiping through profiles and chatting one-to-one before you meet, and you are happy to use it as a mode inside the Bumble app, which is how it works in Singapore today. Now I'm Open, a new free web app launched in October 2026, suits people who would rather post a specific plan and meet whoever says yes. Both can work well; they just start from different places.
This comparison is written by Now I'm Open. We have tried to be accurate and fair, and Bumble BFF has real strengths, not least a long track record and a well-known brand behind it.

How Bumble BFF works
Bumble has offered BFF mode for making friends inside its app since 2016. In 2023 it launched a standalone app, Bumble For Friends, in markets including the UK, US, Australia, Canada and the Philippines. In September 2025 it relaunched that app as BFF, rebuilt on Geneva, a community app it acquired in 2024. The new BFF app keeps one-to-one swiping and chat and adds a Groups tab with group chats, posts and event planning. Its US App Store listing says every match has passed selfie verification and that every feature is free.
In Singapore, things are different. Bumble's help centre says the new BFF app is only for the US, Canada and Mexico for now. Elsewhere, "BFF isn't available in your region yet", and you can keep using BFF mode. When we checked in October 2026, the standalone BFF app was not listed on the Singapore App Store.
To use BFF mode in Singapore, open the Bumble app, go to your profile, then Settings, choose "Type of connection" and select BFF. A few things to know:
- Your BFF profile is separate from your dating profile, so you can write it for friendship.
- Switching from Date to BFF removes your existing matches, according to Bumble.
- Bumble's Singapore listing describes the app as free, with ID verification and a paid Premium tier for extra features.
Bumble BFF's strengths
- Scale. Bumble is a long-established app, so there are likely to be far more people on it than on a new app.
- Get to know people first. Profiles and one-to-one chat let you get a feel for someone before you meet.
- Verification options. Bumble offers ID verification, which many people find reassuring.
- One app for dating and friendship. If you already use Bumble, switching modes is quick.
- Groups, where available. In North America, the BFF app's group features make it easier to build a circle, not just one friendship.
Where Bumble BFF is less suited
- Chats can stall. Swipe-style matching often produces lots of conversations that never become plans. Suggest a specific coffee or walk early.
- Mode switching. In Singapore, using BFF means switching your Bumble connection type, which removes existing dating matches.
- The newest features are not here yet. The relaunched BFF app and its groups are not available in Singapore for now.
How Now I'm Open works
You post a short card saying what you are open to. For example: "Open to a Sunday morning walk at MacRitchie, chatty pace" or "Open to a coffee chat about starting a café, Tiong Bahru, Sat am". You choose Ideas, Friends or Date mode and see like-minded people nearby, shown by area only, never your exact location. A chat opens only when you both say yes.
Signed-in members see each other's photos so you know who you are meeting, and you can choose to reveal yours only after a mutual yes. Selfie verification gives a Verified badge, and members leave references after meet-ups. Women can choose to show their cards only to women. Travellers can check in to 46 cities. It is free and for adults 18 and over.
Now I'm Open's strengths
- Plans first. You start from what you want to do, which makes it easier to actually meet.
- Three modes in one place. Ideas, Friends and Date sit side by side, so you do not have to switch and lose matches.
- Area-only location. Nobody sees exactly where you are.
- Ideas mode. Good for talking through a business idea or a career change with someone who gets it.
Where Now I'm Open is less suited
- It is new. Launched in October 2026, it has far fewer members than Bumble, and you may wait longer for someone to say yes.
- No swiping or long profiles. If you like browsing people and chatting at length first, Bumble BFF will feel more familiar.
- Web app only. There is no app store download.
When to choose which
- Choose Bumble BFF if you want the biggest pool, like getting to know someone through chat first, or already use Bumble.
- Choose Now I'm Open if you have a specific plan in mind and want to meet people who want the same thing.
- Try both. Many people use a big app for reach and a smaller one for specific plans.
Safety, whichever you use
Meet somewhere public and busy, tell a friend where you are going, and make your own way there and back. Keep chats on the platform until you feel comfortable, and keep personal details private. Never send money or gift cards to anyone you have not met in person. If you are unsure about someone, call the 24/7 ScamShield Helpline on 1799.
