Meet like-minded people in Osaka

On your own in Osaka? Check in for the days you're there, say what you're open to, and other travellers and locals who chose to be seen can ask to join. They see your city, never your exact spot.

Osaka is Japan's food capital and a fantastic city for solo travellers, known for takoyaki, okonomiyaki and a famously friendly, outgoing local character. It is cheaper and more relaxed than Tokyo and makes a great base for day trips to Kyoto, Nara and Kobe. Travellers gather around Dotonbori and Namba, the Shinsekai district near Tsutenkaku tower, and the cafés of the Nakazakicho area.

Meeting people in Osaka: what works

  • Stay in Namba or near Shinsaibashi, where social hostels and bars make it easy to meet other travellers.
  • Join a street food tour around Dotonbori and Kuromon Market to eat your way through the city with others.
  • Plan group day trips to Nara and Kyoto, which are easy by train and popular with travellers.
  • Try a standing bar (tachinomi) in Shinsekai or Namba, where locals often strike up conversations.

Stay safe

Osaka is very safe, but keep an eye on your belongings in busy Dotonbori and Namba crowds and check the last train times before heading out late.

Meet in public places, tell a friend where you’re going, and never send money to someone you met online.
