Good places to meet

  • Henderson Waves: Singapore's highest pedestrian bridge, 36m above Henderson Road, linking Mount Faber and Telok Blangah Hill. Lit nightly from 7pm.
  • Tiong Bahru estate: Pre-war flats built by the Singapore Improvement Trust from 1936 in Streamline Moderne style. It is residential, so keep noise down.
  • Supertree Grove, Gardens by the Bay: Free Garden Rhapsody light show at 7.45pm and 8.45pm. Dates can change, so check first.
  • Malay Heritage Centre and Kampong Glam: 85 Sultan Gate. The compound is open Tuesday to Sunday, 8am to 9pm.
  • Lakeside Garden, Jurong Lake Gardens: NParks highlights Logs Trail, Rasau Walk and Neram Streams as photo spots.

Tips

  • Ask before photographing people up close, and respect signs at places of worship and in residential estates.
  • Plan around golden hour and blue hour, and carry water, as it stays warm after sunset.
  • Check the latest CAAS rules before flying a drone anywhere in Singapore.
  • Meet at a public, easy-to-find landmark such as an MRT exit, and share your route with a friend.
  • Keep your kit light and your bag zipped in crowds.

Questions

Do I need a proper camera?

No. Phone photographers are welcome. Say what you shoot with in your topic so others know what to expect.

Can beginners join photo walks?

Yes. Post a card saying you are a beginner and would like tips, or look for cards that welcome all levels.

Is it safe to shoot at night?

Stick to busy, well-lit places like Gardens by the Bay or Henderson Waves after it is lit, go with your group, and keep valuables close.
