Now I’m Open

New at work

New job in Singapore? Find people outside the office

A new job, especially after a move, can leave your evenings and weekends quiet. Now I'm Open lets you post a simple plan, like a hawker lunch near your office, and meet people nearby who are open to the same thing.

Good places to meet

  • Lau Pa Sat: Historic hawker pavilion in the CBD near Telok Ayer MRT, handy for a weekday lunch.
  • Amoy Street Food Centre: A short walk from the CBD and Tanjong Pagar MRT. Busy at lunch, so go a little early.
  • Fort Canning Park: Hilltop park open 24 hours, near Fort Canning, Dhoby Ghaut and Clarke Quay MRT. Good for an after-work walk.
  • Supertree Grove, Gardens by the Bay: The free Garden Rhapsody light show runs at 7.45pm and 8.45pm. Check the site, as dates can change.
  • Singapore Botanic Gardens: Free entry, open 5am to midnight. A calm weekend meeting point.

Tips

  • Keep the first meet-up short and in a public place, such as a hawker centre at lunch.
  • Post for the time you are actually free, like a weekday lunch near your office, so the plan is easy to keep.
  • Clear your own tray at hawker centres. NEA has enforced table clearing since September 2021.
  • Foreign-issued Visa and Mastercard contactless cards work on MRT and buses through SimplyGo, with a small admin fee per day of use.
  • Pair the app with a community club interest group on onePA if you want a regular weekly fixture.

Questions

Is Now I'm Open a networking app?

Not really. It is for meeting people over an activity, like lunch, a walk or a chat about an idea. If you do want to talk about work, post an Ideas card and say so in the topic.

Who can see my profile?

Your location shows by area only, and photos are visible only to signed-in members. Anyone who signs up can see the cards you post, so share only what you are comfortable with.

Is it free?

Yes. Now I'm Open is free for adults aged 18 and over. Membership is still small because the app has just launched, so it may take a little time to get replies.
