Good places to meet

  • Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Street: Pre-war shophouses with cafes, small shops and murals in JB's old town.
  • Johor Bahru Old Chinese Temple: Jalan Trus, in the city centre. Listed as open 7.30am to 5.30pm daily.
  • Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque: Hilltop mosque on Jalan Skudai. Visit outside prayer times and dress modestly.
  • Danga Bay: Waterfront promenade facing the Straits of Johor, best early in the morning or at sunset.
  • Johor Bahru City Square: Mall on Jalan Wong Ah Fook, linked by a pedestrian bridge to the Sultan Iskandar Building and JB Sentral.

Tips

  • The RTS Link between Woodlands North and Bukit Chagar is not running yet. In October 2026 its operator said passenger service is expected around February 2027, subject to approvals.
  • At Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints you can clear Singapore immigration with a QR code from the MyICA app instead of handing over your passport. Still carry your passport.
  • Singapore citizens have been exempt from the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card since December 2023. Other passport holders usually need to submit it within three days before arrival, so check the official site.
  • The KTM Shuttle Tebrau runs from Woodlands Train Checkpoint to JB Sentral in about five minutes; book early, as weekend tickets sell out. Buses 160, 170 and 170X leave from Kranji MRT.
  • Friday evenings and Sunday nights are usually the busiest crossings. Meet your group in a public place, agree a return time, and keep your own passport and money with you.

Questions

Is Johor Bahru in the app's travel list?

The travel check-in list may not include JB. You can still post a card for the trip from your Singapore area and describe the plan, the date and the meeting point.

Should I travel with someone I have just met?

Meet first in Singapore for a coffee or meal. If you go, stay in busy public places, share your plans with a friend, and keep your own passport, money and way home.

Do I need a visa for JB?

Singapore citizens do not need a visa for a short visit to Malaysia. Other nationalities should check Malaysia's entry rules before travelling.
