Good places to meet

  • The Mind Cafe: Prinsep Street. One of Singapore's earliest board game cafes, with a large library and staff who can teach games.
  • Team Board Game: Arumugam Road, about a minute's walk from MacPherson MRT. Book a table on its website.
  • The King and the Pawn: Purvis Street, a short walk from Bugis or Esplanade MRT. Charges a per-person cover rather than by the hour.
  • ME Cafe and Games: Outlets in Tanjong Pagar and Orchard; the Tanjong Pagar outlet is listed as open 24 hours.
  • Pixels and Pieces: Serangoon Garden Way and Upper Cross Street in Chinatown.

Tips

  • Pricing varies: some cafes charge by the hour, some a flat package, and some a cover charge. Check before you go and split the bill fairly.
  • Book a table for Friday and weekend evenings, as popular cafes fill up.
  • Meet at the cafe itself for the first game night. It is public and you have something to do straight away.
  • Bring or pick a game you can teach in about ten minutes if anyone is new.
  • Some community clubs run free board game interest groups, so check your nearest CC too.

Questions

Do I need to own any games?

No. Board game cafes have their own libraries. If you do have a favourite, mention it in your card.

I've never played modern board games. Can I join?

Yes. Look for cards that say beginners welcome, or post your own and ask someone to teach you.

Where should we meet?

A board game cafe is ideal for a first meet-up because it is public and staffed. Agree the cafe and time in chat after you both say yes.
